Made by Thibault Morey at Domaine Morey-Coffinet, a respected Chassagne-Montrachet estate formed in 1978 through the union of two major Burgundy winemaking families, the Moreys and the Coffinets. The domaine farms 8.5 hectares organically and biodynamically. Their Bâtard-Montrachet comes from a tiny 0.1-hectare parcel at the top of the grand cru, on the Chassagne side near the vineyard's only tree, where the soil turns distinctly gravelly compared to the rest of the appellation — a site known for producing wines that are tight and concentrated in youth, opening into real depth and breadth with age. The result is Bâtard-Montrachet in its classic register: powerful yet mineral-driven, with real tension and a saline edge, built to reward years in the cellar.
