Marchand-Tawse Cote de Nuits Villages 2022 (750ml)

Made by Marchand-Tawse, a partnership between Pascal Marchand — a French-Canadian winemaker who arrived in Burgundy in 1983 and took over the famed Clos des Epeneaux in Pommard at just 22 — and Canadian financier Moray Tawse. Together they built a micro-négociant estate that farms organically and biodynamically, working closely with partner-growers across some of Burgundy's top villages, from Vosne-Romanée to Chambertin. This Côte de Nuits Villages comes from several vineyards around Corgoloin, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, and Brochon near Gevrey-Chambertin, where vines average around 35 years old on hard limestone hillsides — clay near the top of the slope, pebbles below, and pure limestone at the base. The result is pretty and pure, with raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry character, a light floral lift, and firm tannins backed by a saline, mineral edge — an accessible, food-friendly entry point into the Marchand-Tawse style.
