Ceretto Barolo 'Prapo' 2021 (750ml)

Prapò is one of the historic single vineyards of Ceretto, the Alba family estate that has been making wine in Piedmont's Langhe hills since the 1930s. Brothers Bruno and Marcello Ceretto began working this land in the 1960s, when they set out to acquire the region's finest sites, and the family has bottled Prapò on its own since 1976, among the earliest single-vineyard Barolos. The vineyard lies in Serralunga d'Alba, on the eastern side of the commune between the hamlet of Baudana and the village itself. Its vines curve around the hillside facing south and southeast at roughly 270 to 380 meters, with views toward the Alta Langa. The soils are rich, but the cooler exposure lets the grapes ripen slowly, which helps in wet years and preserves freshness in warm ones. Farmed organically and made entirely from Nebbiolo, Prapò shows the depth and firm tannic backbone Serralunga is known for. It is darker and more brooding than Barolos from the appellation's western villages, with a distinct balsamic, herbal lift. The 2021 vintage survived a spring frost to deliver structured, balanced wines built for long aging. Give this one time in the cellar, or decant before serving.
