Ceretto Barolo (750ml)

Ceretto has been making wine in Alba, the heart of Piedmont's Langhe hills, since the 1930s. Founder Riccardo Ceretto had no vineyards of his own and made his wine from purchased grapes. In the 1960s his sons Bruno and Marcello, later known as the "Barolo Brothers," began identifying the area's best sites and acquiring them, building one of the region's most respected estates and becoming early champions of single-vineyard Barolo. The third generation, led by winemaker Alessandro Ceretto, now farms every vineyard organically, a shift begun in 2010, and relies on native yeasts to start fermentation. Their classic Barolo is the family's portrait of the whole appellation. It is made entirely from Nebbiolo grown across several of Barolo's villages, combining the finesse of the western communes of La Morra and Barolo with the grip and depth of Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba. Following DOCG rules, the wine rests at least 38 months before release, 18 or more of them in oak. In 2021, a spring frost and an uneven growing season still yielded Barolos with firm structure, good balance, and the stuffing to age well for years. Expect the hallmarks of fine Nebbiolo: red fruit, rose, earth, and dried herbs, carried by lively acidity and polished tannins.
