Arancino comes from Caruso & Minini in Marsala, on the far western tip of Sicily. The estate was founded in the early 2000s by Stefano Caruso, a third-generation grower, and Mario Minini, who brought a career in sales from Northern Italy. Stefano now runs it with his daughters, Giovanna and Rosanna. The wine is 100% Catarratto, the white grape that has long shaped western Sicily’s vineyards and is best known as a backbone of Marsala. Here it is made in the old way: the grapes ferment with native yeasts and stay on their skins for about three weeks. That gives the wine its amber-gold color and the “little orange” name. The style is a bright, approachable orange wine, with candied citrus peel, blood orange, dried apricot and wild Mediterranean herbs. Gentle grip from the skins and a salty, mineral finish keep it fresh, which makes it an easy match for shellfish, roast chicken and strongly flavored cheeses.
