Ca del Baio Langhe Nebbiolo (750ml)
Ca' del Baio, the house of the bay horse, is the Grasso family estate in Treiso, in Piedmont's Barbaresco zone. In the late 1800s Giuseppe Grasso moved his family from Calosso to the Treiso farmhouse where the winery still stands, and his son Luigi planted the first vines in 1921. Giulio and Luciana Grasso now run it with their daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica, farming under the sustainable Green Experience rules, with cover crops, no chemical weeding and harvest by hand. Their Barbaresco comes from old vines in crus such as Asili and Pora. This Nebbiolo carries the broader Langhe DOC and comes from young vines planted in 2007 and 2008 on bluish clay and limestone marl. It ferments on native yeasts and is raised entirely in stainless steel, with part of the fruit going through carbonic maceration. This is Barbaresco country's Nebbiolo at its freshest, floral and lively.
