About This Item

Few names in Piedmont carry the weight of Bruno Giacosa. Born in Neive in 1929, he went to work in his family’s wine business at fifteen, the third generation to do so. For almost eighty years he made Barbaresco and Barolo of uncompromising purity, first from grapes bought from growers whose vineyards he knew intimately, and from 1980 also from his own prized parcels in Barbaresco, La Morra and Serralunga d’Alba. His daughter Bruna has led the house since his death in 2018, staying faithful to traditional methods while putting the best modern tools to work. This Nebbiolo d’Alba comes from the Roero, the hill country across the Tanaro River from Alba, where Giacosa sources fruit in Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero and Vezza d’Alba. The soils there are sandy and calcareous, gentler than the clay-limestone marls of Barolo, and they bring out the perfume and suppleness of the grape. Fermentation takes place in steel with a long maceration of about twenty-five days, followed by fourteen months in French oak. The 2023 season tested Piedmont’s growers. A wet May and June brought heavy mildew pressure and some areas saw hail in July, but those spring rains left enough water in the ground to carry the vines through a long August heatwave. The harvest came in a little early. The vintage favors mid-weight reds with ripe, polished tannins and early charm. It is classic Giacosa precision expressed through the softer voice of the Roero, ready to enjoy now.

Like wine tasting, but for cheese

Absolutely loved the cheese store! Everyone was super helpful and friendly. Lena helped us — she was very knowledgeable on all the cheeses: where they came from, what the region is like, what they are known for. It was like wine tasting for cheese.

Excellent customer service on a shipped order

Ordered several cheeses from them and the wrong items were delivered. Contacted the store and they recognized the error and immediately sent the correct order the next day without any fuss. Really appreciate the promptness and professionalism.
