"Bittarelli Farro Perlato Bio" is an organic, pearled farro produced by the Bittarelli family farm located in Umbria, Italy. Agricola Bittarelli is a family-run farm in the hills of Lake Trasimeno, which has been farming organically since the early 2000s.
Farro Perlato means "pearled farro" (spelt in Italian). "Pearled" indicates that the tough, outer bran has been mechanically removed, allowing it to cook much faster (around 30 minutes, or even faster if pre-soaked) than whole farro. Farro is an ancient grain known for being a good source of plant protein, fiber, vitamins (B and E), and minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc. It is low in fat and has a high satiating power. It has a nutty flavor and a satisfying, chewy texture, making it a versatile ingredient. It can be used in soups, salads, grain bowls, or as a substitute for rice in dishes like "farrotto" (a farro-based risotto).
